Runners Tell All - My Favorite Running Pictures

Welcome to another month of Runner's Tell All! If you are new to the link-up - hooray! We are so glad you are here! Runners Tell All is a monthly linkup hosted by Sunshine to the Square Inch and The Lady Okie that occurs on the 21st of every month. Our goal is to build a community where we can encourage and inspire each other on our running journeys. Each month we offer two co-host options. The sponsorship comes with entries into the giveaways, an advertisement spot on both of our blogs and an opportunity to connect with lots of other runners and bloggers. If you are interested in being a co-host we would love to have you. For more information please click here or to e-mail me directly please click here. Spots are now open for June!

I don't know about you but I look forward to this link-up every month! I've been so encouraged by the community of runners that have shared their stories of joy, pain, laughter and big accomplishments. Today we are sharing our favorite running pictures. I couldn't limit it to one so you get to see lots of my favorite running pictures. I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Favorite Running Pictures

I honestly don't know how to pick just one picture. I have been blessed with so many fun and memorable races. I didn't even know which one to list first so I picked the one that had the most miles in it - the marathon!

This picture is of me and my good friend Kirsten (aka my work spouse) crossing the finish line at the Seattle Rock'n'Roll marathon. That run was a beast. Before we started training I had a local person tell me that the course wasn't hilly. I checked the elevation chart a month before the race and holy gaucamole, that man has probably never been to Kansas because that course had all kinds of hills! We ended up finishing and I'm proud to say we are smiling at mile 26.2!

You might be wondering how this next picture is a running picture and I assure you it is! My brother lives in Washington and he used to come back to Kansas for the annual River Run hosted in our hometown. My brother is naturally much faster than I am. We would start out the race together and then at the end my brother said "I turned around to see where you were and you weren't there anymore". ha ha! So, we had to take pictures before the race because there was no 'during' the run pictures. I probably love this picture more because it represents my brother's kind heart and willingness to travel home to run with me and to see family.

Oh Race for the Cure, how I love you! Let me just tell you that this was one of my favorite running expericnes, ever! I hosted a 'tutu party' the night before. It was a blast to craft, have girl time and then run for a good cause.

My sister, Holly!                                                        My sweet Mom!
My work spouse                                       an amazing cancer survivor, right here!

Now for an awkward running moment ...

Let's just get real for a moment, most runners don't look like a million bucks when running. You sweat, you are trying to breathe, you are trying push hard, trying not to poop your pants sometimes, etc. ... that's just how it goes. These pictures right here cracks me up! For starters, my hair looked really cute ... the day before. I'm not fixing my hair the morning of a race so I took yesterdays hair and added some hair ties to help it stay in place. It was ugly. Secondly, my kind husband came to take these pictures of me. I really thought I was making a "I'm happy to be running! I'm awesome and intense! Look at me run", face and this is what turned out!

  1. I always forget about this monthly link-up! I love anything running related and hearing other runners' stories and experiences. I don't know if I have any good race photos. I always look so uncomfortable and awkward in all of them! Love your photos! I will have to put this link-up on my calendar if next month :)

  2. I always look super awkward in all of my mid-run pictures ... Hence why I never buy anything from the official race photographers. What a great finish line picture though!

  3. Love all the family pics! When I found out that my long lost sister was a runner too I was beside myself! It's a special bond!

  4. Your running pictures are great!! I love the tutus, and the awkwardness of the last few running pics are awesome :)

  5. We would love to have you join in! I sometimes forget about linkups too but I for sure can't forget this one because I host it =)

  6. Running pictures are often awkward. My sister actually snapped that picture of me at the end of the full and it is one of my favorites.

  7. ha ha. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets left behind =) My brother does always come back and push me to spring to the end so it works out well.

  8. It is a special bond! I whole heartedly agree. My brother lives far away now and his knee is a little whacked out so we haven't ran together in a long time! =(

  9. Your last pictures are so hilarious! I try my best to ignore the race photographers because I'm so afraid that I will try to smile, but it will come across as goofy face or "help! I'm dying!".

  10. Beka, you look like a blast to run with. Maybe sometime I'll be in your neck of the woods or vice versa and I can experience the joy with which you run!! :)

  11. I know! I laugh every time I see them. My husband asked what the heck I was doing and he couldn't figure out why I kept making such a weird face. ha ha!

  12. That would be fun to run together. I'll admit, I'm not always fun, sometimes I can get cranky during a run but overall I have fun =)

  13. Thanks, Betsy! I agree that running with girls is a BLAST. Have you blogged about your 1st half? I'll have to read it. Some races are just crap and the good news is there are more to do!

  14. Dude, I'm trying to spot your BondiBand. Is it on your wrist in the first pic?

I love that picture of you and your friend finishing the marathon. What a priceless moment to capture on camera!

  16. That last picture is AWESOME. It's begging to be a meme - you'd be (even more) internet famous! On a more serious note, the first picture is fabulous.

Thankful to have a running buddy like you and for all of the memories we have shared on the pavement! More to come! <3

  18. Those are some amazing running pics! Love the collection! You are hard core girl! I love it :) Also I've always wanted to do a Run for the Cure Race. It must be such an amazing feeling having all those great women around you while you're running.

  19. Ding! Ding! For some reason I started getting a massive headache so I took I off and wore it on my wrist :)

  20. Thanks! I agree, it was a priceless moment and glad we have a photo of it.

  21. I have yet to write my post for this today (oops...) mostly because I have noooooo photos of me running - I have yet to run a race! Love this recap though, these are so funny!

  22. I love the tutu pictures! That looks like so much fun!

  23. So I just had to google and have my husband explain what a 'meme' is and YES my picture could totally be one! =) Thanks for the kind compliment.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm thankful for you too and sure am glad for all our runs! <3

  25. Thanks so much! You totally should do a Race for the Cure. I didn't blog this part but that picture of the lady who survived cancer. Well ... I randomly just started talking to her and found out she was a cancer survivor. I'm not saying this to pat myself on the back but this instant need to give her my tutu swept over me and I knew she was to have it for being a survivor! We both cried, smiled and then we took a picture and went on our way. I can't even remember her name but I'll never forget her. That race really is fun and meaningful.

  26. That's ok! I'm glad you enjoy the pictures. You should totally do a race. I can totally see you doing a mud race or a color run.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks so much, Julie! You should make one! It's easy peasy and so fun to run in!

  28. I LOVE this link up too and totally look forward to it! Love your pics and I think it is very cool and so special that you do runs with your brother. I did one half marathon with my bro then he decided to stick to shorter and faster distances :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love all those tutu ones! The "looking back and you weren't there" is hilarious! My dad is definitely like that. Thanks for hosting! Love this link-up!

    ReplyDelete
  30. The tutus look fun! I might have to do the Race for the Cure in GR this fall.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for stoppin' by my blog yesterday! I love all these pictures!! Love that your bro comes home for that race - and the tutus...<3

  32. I love how we can have so many memories associated with just one race picture! Your last two made me laugh. I have this special talent of not actually looking like a human being in my official race photos, even when I thought I was smiling or doing some kind of cute/fun pose.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Fantastic pictures, Beka! I love seeing all the family and friend support you have - if you have a printed running photo album (do people even do that anymore?!) it'll be a lovely memory store for you. Your awkward running pic ... hilarious. I know exactly what you mean about trying through exhaustion to present that "naturally enthusiastic and happy" face and having it fail. HOWEVER... looks like you are totally leading that race!

    ReplyDelete
  34. haha! all it takes is one wrong click of the camera catching your smile at the wrong place & yeah... awkward picture. I have plenty of them :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm so glad you love the linkup! I'm thankful to hear positive things about it and I really feel like a lot of women are getting to be inspired by each other. My husband is like your brother - he does short and fast races! Glad you got to run with home some though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks, Allison! It is funny about people looking for us and then we are gone. Such is life =) I would LOVE to do some speed work and actually run a race WITH my brother. I think that would be legit!

    ReplyDelete
  37. You totally should do a race for the cure! It's a great race and so much fun.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was happy to stop by! Thanks for the sweet compliments.

  39. I'm glad you got a good laugh at those pictures. I still bust out laughing when I go through them. They are just terrible! It's just hard to look super pretty in a race and I think that is normal. I mean we are sweating and giving everything we got.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't have a running album but you know that might be a really good idea! I have such good memories with so many people! I'm totally leading that race ;) not really, but that picture does make it appear that way.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think every runner has some awkward and weird running photos. Maybe we should of picked that as a theme "awkward running photos".

    ReplyDelete
  42. Love these photos! Most of my race pics are before and after, but you are spot on with the during shots. The few I have make me look totally unlike what I think I look like when I am running. HAHA! Race for the Cure was my first race ever - love the tutus!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. These are great running pictures! I love the group shot of all the girls in tutus. I have never done a race with a big group of friends, I think it would be really fun. Also, I love the last 2. I hate seeing cameras during a race because I never know what to do. My natural instinct is to smile, but the mix of running hard and trying to pose has never worked out as a good combination for me. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Love that your brother comes home to run with you!! How special! And that awkward picture is probably every picture of me running! :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. How fun that Race for the Cure was your first run! That's awesome. Yeah, I just don't know how people look awesome when running??? It'll be a mystery to me for a looong time.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I highly recommend doing a big group race. We didn't all run the same speed but we definitely met up before and cheered each other one. It was so fun.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Me too, girl! I wish he came home more because I'm missing my siblings like crazy lately. I think every runner has the awkward pictures. It is just how it goes.
