Runners Tell All - My Biggest Running Fan

Hello and welcome to November's RTA! Runners Tell All is a monthly linkup hosted by Sunshine to the Square Inch and The Lady Okie that occurs on the 21st of every month. Our goal is to build a community where we can encourage and inspire each other on our running journeys. November's prompt is your favorite biggest running fan or running hero!  Next month is the last month for our linkup! We will be reflecting on 2014 and sharing our 2015 goals!

Sponsorship Update:
We are still offering two co-host options for December. This allows for us to connect with you, advertise your blog and it will also help fund our last RTA giveaway! Each co-host spot comes with entries into the giveaway as well as a month of advertising on each of our blogs. Because I am in Myanmar with limited internet Amanda will now be taking care of all sponsorships. If you are interested in sponsoring Runners Tell All please e-mail Amanda at theladyokie{at}gmail{dot}com.  We currently have two spots available for December

The picture above might be deceiving because my dog is not my biggest running fan - I just think she is cute plus I miss her since I'm living in Asia.

I have two biggest running fans. The first person that comes to mind is definitely my Mom. My Mom is a night owl but yet she manages to get out of bed for the majority of my races. She even came to Seattle with us when I ran my first marathon. She's always up for running adventures and is willing to hold our gear, drive us to a location and be there to support us.

Here is a sign I made for my Mom to hold up during my first marathon. My siblings and I have a running joke of who is the most favorite sibling. I, of course, am that sibling (just in case my siblings need that clarification). ;) Unfortunately my Mom forgot this sign on race morning....

My other biggest running fan is Dave! Dave always encourages me to run and be healthy. We ran one half marathon together and he was really good at keeping me going. We do not train together because Dave is a short distance speed runner (6-7 min. mile) and there is no way I can keep up with him. I usually end up annoyed at his speed and my lack thereof. However, races are great!

Who is your biggest running fan? Do you have a running hero?

PS - Who is my running hero? I truly am inspired by Melody who blogs over at Will Run for Margaritas. She's an awesome runner and is currently running for TransAmerica where a dollar is given to various charities for every runner she passes.

Giveaway
We aren't having a giveaway today. Booooo, I know! However, we do have a fun giveaway for December planned so come back for that one!

  1. My biggest running fans are my Dad and my husband, Barry. I love that so many of us still have our parents supporting us at races, even though we're adults now. They just thought they were off the hook once we turned 18 and finished with things like youth soccer ;-) Little did they know, we would find something else to get them up at an ungodly hour on Saturday mornings! But it makes races all the more fun when you have someone out there cheering you on, and someone to share the experience with.

  2. Moms and husbands are the best running fans. I love when moms cheer for their favorite kids! ;) If I had to pick a hero, I would pick all of the kids on my husband's cross country team. I know that's more than one, but they are so inspiring! Some of them go into cross country with zero running, or even athletic experience, but they want to be part of a team and are willing to work hard. I've seen kids improve from 30+ min 5k's, to sub-20 5k's in a span of two years. It's so awesome!

  3. Do I spy the Prairie Fire medal?! :) I wish we could have done that one together! Maybe in a few years when you're back Stateside. So glad we could do this linkup together, friend!

  4. That's so awesome your mom comes to your early races. My sister-in-law is a crazy night owl but she still comes to my races when she's in town. I definitely appreciate the sacrifice!

  5. That comment made me laugh! You are so right that we have kept our parents getting up early. I'm just glad they are willing to do it.

  6. Yes! Yes to the favorite kids!

That's really neat about the kids on your husbands cross country team. I think a sport can be really helpful in developing kids. I bet it would be so neat to see the, improve so much!

  8. That's cool that your mom goes to every one of your races and cheers you on! It is neat that you and your husband both enjoy running. That is the first time I heard about TransAmerica, that is a pretty neat way of raising money for charity and motivation while running. :)

  10. I apologize for the delayed response. I wrote it on here before and the internet cut out. That's internet life for you in Myanmar.

I'm glad your sister-in-law comes and supports your races. It's always nice to have someone that is willing to come cheer you on.

  11. I am glad my husband and I both have running in common. It's been fun.

Yes, TransAmerica is awesome! I love that they donate so much money to charity. It's a great company that helps a lot.

  12. You know what? You are right about our dog! Sometimes our sister-in-law will bring her to races to cheer us on and once she figures out who we are she always wants to come and run with us. My husband used to run with her every day for 2-3 miles. She is a really great runner.
